The Asus TUF Gaming FX505 DT? Sure, the name is really weird and hard to spell but a hard to spell name doesn’t mean that the laptop is any bad. In fact, it’s the other way around for this laptop. The laptop offers a lot of stuff at a pretty decent price, the FX505 DT is available in some different configurations but the best value for money configuration is the one that houses a 4 GB GTX 1650 and costs about $900. The price can go up or down depending upon the storage and the GPU you choose. Well, here’s our full review for Asus’s TUF Gaming FX505 DT.
Design and Display
The design of the FX505 DT might not be its best suite, in other words, the design is kind of just average looking. The design aesthetics of this laptop aren’t really on the super gaming and aren’t also on the super casual side. The design is both a little bit of super gaming laptop and a little bit of super casual which might make it unappealing to the eye for some people. The back of the lid of FX505 DT has a soft matte finish and houses the Asus logo in the center, the Asus logo has a golden finish to it. The deck just houses the keyboard, the power button, and the trackpad so nothing too special here, the deck is quite spacious and doesn’t feel congested at all. The keyboard follows a normal layout and one thing good about the keyboard is that there is a number pad which is getting kind of harder to find in many of the laptops these days. The WASD keys on the keyboard also have a different color than the rest of the keyboard, the keys go deep enough and are spacious. The arrow keys also have a lot of space around them and don’t feel congested at all. The power button is situated on the top right corner of the deck, the trackpad is also big enough in size and should get most of your work done smoothly. Talking about the display, the display is 15.6 inches Full HD IPS panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. A 120Hz refresh rate looks pretty nice on this laptop considering it just costs about $900, the screen is also an anti-glare screen and gets plenty bright so no compromises there but if we are talking about compromises the bottom chin on the screen is really big and it looks even bigger because of the small side and top bezels and its not just the bottom chin that looks weird there’s something about the lid’s design that also makes the laptop look unappealing.
Performance and Specifications
The FX505 DT comes with a Quad-Core AMD Ryzen 7 3750 H processor and there aren’t many configurations available for this laptop and none of those configurations offer the laptop with an Intel processor. So, if you’re someone who doesn’t like AMD processors this laptop is definitely not for you. the variant that we recommend that everyone should purchase is the one that comes with 8 GB of RAM, a 120Hz Full HD 15.6 IPS display, 512 GB of SSD storage and 4 GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics, this is probably the best-selling variant of the FX505 DT and it costs about $899. There is another cheaper variant available that comes with 60Hz 15.6 inches FHD display, AMD Ryzen 5 3550H processor and AMD Radeon Rx 560X graphics this variant can’t necessarily be counted under FX505 DT since it has a different name but it still falls under the TUF gaming section of Asus. With a smaller processor and smaller refresh rate, the price is also considerably less for this variant, it costs around $699.
The performance on the laptop is what you’d expect out of the GTX 1650, you should be able to run most of the entry-level and mid-range games without any problem but then again this laptop does cost less and is powered by a less powerful processor which means that you won’t be able to play all the games on high settings without compromising the gameplay. The battery on this laptop is actually above average from what you’d expect from a gaming laptop and should give you about 4 to 5 hours of battery life. Verdict
The Asus TUF Gaming FX505 DT is an awesome entry-level gaming laptop. Most of the things about this gaming laptop shout out value for money and this laptop is actually a good value for money laptop. However, there are some flaws that this laptop has, the design isn’t particularly good looking and although the laptop does look premium there are parts of the laptop that feel cheap but the performance is good as it should be and that is probably the most important thing that gamers look for in a laptop. So, if you’re not into AMD processors or are looking for a better and elegant design there are actually a lot of other entry-level gaming laptops available in the market.
