ZTE launches VR headset for its new Axon 7 smartphone

It is a law that in 2016 you cannot release a phone without also releasing a complementary VR headset, and ZTE isn’t about to break any rules. Alongside the announcement of its new Axon 7 smartphone today, ZTE also unveiled the creatively named ZTE VR. It’s basically ZTE’s version of the Gear VR: it’s a mostly empty headset that you slide the Axon 7 into.

There are only a few details to date on the new headset, despite ZTE’s announcement. a picture shows that it will have some buttons and apparently an impact pad that may be swiped, like on the Gear VR. there is a 9-axis gyro in-built to reinforce motion following, however that is regarding it on details. over doubtless, most school are going to be left to the phone. ZTE did not announce a unharness date or rating.

ZTE conjointly notes that the axone seven can support Android’s Daydream VR. it is not clear if the ZTE VR may be a Daydream-compatible headset or if ZTE merely means its phone are going to be capable of using Daydream — my reading is that the latter. however either means, consumers can have to be compelled to wait till Daydream rolls out as a part of automaton N, doubtless someday this fall.
